Story Order
Separator Line

W Initial hen stories are in a series, or are part of a deeper story line, it's not always obvious if we need to read the stories in any particular order, and if we do, what order we need to read them. But don't worry; we are here to help. This is a guide in how to read our stories regarding their order.

How to read our stories will depend on the story line, but right now we only have children's books, and all our children's books have the same guidelines as follows:

All stories have episodes that run in a certain order, but you do not have to read these stories in any order to understand them. They can be read in any order you like, and you will understand them just fine. This is important because we plan on having lots and lots of stories, and it would be unrealistic to expect anyone, particularly children, to read a hundred or so stories in a certain order just so that they can understand each one. This would also be too restrictive. For example, you might see a particular Phillip & Bonzo episode that looks appealing to you, but maybe it's Episode 90. We wouldn't want you to have to read all 89 stories before it just so that you can understand the episode that you're currently interested in.

However, while you don't need to read the stories in order, it can be beneficial to do so. When stories are written, it's advantageous to not always have to rewrite certain information that was made available in the previous stories. For example, we wouldn't want to reintroduce Phillip and Bonzo in every story; it's expected that you know enough about them when reading an episode further into the story line. Also, the order of the episodes is often done intentionally for artistic purposes, usually to induce certain emotional responses from the audience. For example, the author might be dropping clues about something that's kept a secret until a certain episode, keeping the audience in suspense, and making the revelation more enjoyable. But of course if you read that episode first, then it doesn't have the same effect.

My advice is to at least read the first book if you're new to Phillip & Bonzo so you can be better acquainted with the main characters, and then read any story that you like if they interest you. But reading the first book isn't necessary, just helpful. You can get well acquainted with the story line just fine without doing so. If you're a big fan of these stories, then I would definitely recommend reading every book in order. It can make the experience even better.

In addition to that, as far as how the events flow in the stories, these do not necessarily happen in any particular order either. Sometimes a story's events can come after the events of the previous episode, but a new episode's events could also take place before it. In fact, a story can have a long time frame, and episodes that come after it can have events taking place within the previous episode's time frame. So just keep that in mind when you're reading a new episode. So for example, if a character becomes rich in one of the episodes, and in the next episode, they're not rich, it's probably because the story takes place before the previous episode's events. Another possibility is that this new episode's events take place after the previous one, but there was an event from a story that made the character lose their money, but it's simply not yet part of the episode that you're reading.
