But I was so caught up in my excitement for these new books that I wanted to make, that I temporarily forgot about my self-imposed limitation, and eventually, I decided to let go of the bakery business so I could start a children's book business instead. I still want to make the bakery happen some day, but I'm more into the books now. I saw more potential in the story-making business, and plus it was more fun.
However, I reminded myself that I didn't really know how to write, and that I hadn't put together my guidelines yet. Fearful of another squashing and more disappointment, I decided to go ahead, and start working on that set of guidelines first. The problem was that it was going to be a huge project in its own right. It could take me a year or two just to get that done, and I didn't want to wait. So I thought long and hard about it, and came to a few realizations.
First, it's been my desire to write my whole life, and I was letting this stop me. What was more important? Writing or waiting so long to acquire this education that I ended up dying before I could actually write anything? Second, maybe it was better to write first so that I could develop the experience that I might need in order to acquire this education. There's nothing like actually writing in order to learn how to write. Third, these were children's books. Children's books were much simpler, and didn't follow the same complex rules as more mature books. In fact, they would be an excellent way to begin my journey of learning how to write well. And four, I realized that in actuality, I already knew how to write well. I mean, I wasn't the same kid who wrote bad stories all those years ago. Part of the reason for that was because throughout my life, I already picked up on a lot of information that would help me when it came to writing.
So I decided to give it a shot, and I'm very happy that I did. Not only did I create some great stories and books, but I realized that much of what I needed to learn, I never would have got without the experience of actually writing. Plus, I'm now well on my way to an exciting career in story-making. It even overtook my priority with my game. And while my focus right now is on children's books, I still plan on writing books for all ages. How exciting!
So what began as a simple idea to sell more bakery items grew into a full business of its own. Yep, I started making these books to help sell more cakes. Can you believe it?
