Persons might forget, or they might be surprised to know, that artificial intelligence isn’t perfect, and it doesn’t do the best when it comes to creativity, probably because it lacks imagination, and makes a lot of errors, whether it’s errors in writing or imagery. What’s more is that these errors can be rather extreme, and quite embarrassing for anyone who claims to have created it, and probably makes it pretty obvious that you’re using A.I. to begin with. Take for example A.I.’s struggle to create hands correctly. I heard that this problem is being corrected now with newer generations of software, but in any case, errors like this continue to happen.
Now you might wonder why that’s such a problem. After all, humans make a lot of errors too. But there are a couple of things to note here.
One, the kind of errors that A.I. makes is pretty bad. I mean, I’ve seen A.I. produce pure crap, and would appreciate even an amateur work of art over some of the things that I’ve seen A.I. create. Just to give you an example, when putting together images, A.I. often gives persons 6 fingers and altogether weird hands. I’m not kidding about this; it’s pretty creepy.
And two, A.I. can be more difficult to work with than you might think. Sure, it’s a lot easier to use when you’re not a professional writer or artist, but if the A.I. generated results aren’t quite what you want them to be, it’s very difficult to tweak, meaning if you don’t have the skill to edit it, it can be incredibly frustrating, possibly making A.I. worthless in this regard. It would be much easier to just talk to an actual human artist, and tell them the changes that you want made, and then they can go ahead and do it.
Now, when you think of artificial intelligence creating artwork, you might have in your head the idea that the software generates imagery on its own. However, in reality, that’s not quite how it works. Let me explain what A.I. does. The software actually uses imagery that was already created from actual human artists. So now, not only is A.I. art not recommended, but it’s now an ethical issue. Now, I’m not saying that A.I. just copies the work from other artists; it doesn’t. But in my opinion, it does cross a line, since what it basically does is take artwork from real artists, and manipulates it.
It might be a different story if the software was simply studying the real artists’ work; after all, we human artists study the work of other artists all the time, and that’s how we improve ourselves. That’s acceptable. But this isn’t exactly what A.I. does. It actually manipulates the art. In other words, it utilizes the actual work from the real artists, meaning that A.I. artwork wouldn’t really even be possible without artwork already made by real artists.
